Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) foam is a closed-cell insulation that’s manufactured by “expanding” a polystyrene polymer; the appearance is typically a white foam plastic insulation material (the likes of which can be found as merchandise packaging). Our Polystyrene insulation is manufactured in a variety of board sizes – usually a minimum of 1-inch thick. Tapered units are also manufactured for use in roofing assemblies where the insulation is used to create slope for positive drainage. One of the more common uses in roofing is the ballasted single-ply roof assembly, where a roof membrane is placed over the insulation and ballasted with rock, concrete pavers, or other material.

The 3D Construction System is a cost-efficient construction system based on industrially prefabricated 3D panels. The 3D panels consist of an EPS core with a thickness ranging from 50 to 100 mm sandwiched between two plane-parallel welded wire mesh sheets (cover meshes) and inclined diagonal wires in between that go through the EPS core and that are welded to the cover mesh’s line wires. This results in a light-weight, three-dimensional truss system with a high inherent stiffness.

Components of CST 3D elements can generally be dimensioned and designed as other reinforced concrete components. Especially the connecting bars are equal to the connecting reinforcements required for conventional reinforced concrete structures. The amount of connecting reinforcement depends on structural requirements. Vertical connecting bars in the following details are designed for areas with small earthquake loads. In areas with higher risk of earthquakes the connection reinforcement has to be strengthend, accordingly.
